I love reading. I have books that I absolutely adore, books that I would crawl into and live in if I had my chance. But I have been reading and listening to the same books over and over and over again, and I want to crawl out and see if I can find something new that I love.

I’m posting book reviews here mostly to keep myself accountable. I’ve also got a book-related crochet project that I’ll be sharing over on my crochet blog. I hope I can find some books that you guys will enjoy as well. Please feel free to send me book recommendations if you have them!

My goal for January is to read through books that have been sitting in my Kindle/Audible library for ages, as well as some books that I’ve been meaning to get to for a while. I’m hoping to read 10 books a month, but I’m a fast reader (and I listen on at least 1.1x speed usually), so it’s likely to be more than that. (That’ll make the crochet project interesting…)

Birthday Cake!!!

It’s my birthday!

I am making my own cake.

Once the layers are cool, I’ve got oreo frosting. It’s going to be delicious. (No guarantees on pretty. I haven’t frosted a lot of cakes.) I will reblog with updates.

The finished cake. I will be the first to admit that it is not bakery quality. My frosting job leaves a lot to be desired. But I think it's good enough, and I'm sure it'll taste good. Chocolate and oreo just has to taste good, right?

Chili

One of my all-time favorite foods! The “recipe” could be considered cheating, I guess, but it’s worked for my family for years.

You need:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 2 cans Chili Magic beans
  • 2 cans chili ready tomatoes
  • Optional: tortilla chips or cornbread

Cook up the meat, dump in the cans, and simmer for 20-30 minutes to let it thicken up. Serve over chips or cornbread if you want.

This makes about 6 servings.
